Caribbean Sea and tropical jungle, at once!
Puerto Viejo de Talamanca is the center of the region. You can find several supermarkets, restaurants, bars, nightclubs, doctors, pharmacies, banks and a post office. An organic market is open every Saturday morning, from 6:00 a.m. until 10 – 11:00 a.m., just behind the Casa de la Cultura. Find a wide range of local vegetables, fruits and other specialty local products that are inexpensive and excellent. Discover fusion cuisine and local variations of Caribena style cuisine set to relaxed and vibrant vibes in Puerto Viejo.
Salsa Brava is the legendary surf break known as one of the biggest waves on the Caribbean side. Playa Cocles, still in the same region but a bit further down south from Salsa Brava, is another powerful wave on the Caribbean side. Cocles is the next neighborhood after Puerto Viejo and then Playa Chiquita, a very friendly/family neighborhood with restaurants, a grocery store (where you can find international products), an ice cream shop, all within walking distance.
