Come enjoy a comfortable and invigorating stay in this unique and elegant jungle residence located on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica. It sleeps 14 comfortably on a 9 acre private estate with views of the ocean and primary rainforest. We are a 10 minute walk to the beach, but highly recommend a vehicle, preferably a 4x4, to access the property.
This property combines 2 homes for your use as one large travel destination. Perfect for a vacation with your friends or family or for hosting any types of retreats. This is not a typical house - it's an experience unlike any other. Welcome to your own National Geographic! Big Tree Family and Retreat Centre is a private oceanview and rainforest property that sits on the edge of the virgin rainforest where guests are immersed in the energy, sounds, sights, smells and awe of tropical wildlife - all from within the comforts of our 2 large villas.

Big Tree Famly and Retreat Centre is located within Gandoca-Manzanillo in Punta Uva on the Caribbean Coast of Costa Rica. The property is 1 km from the turquoise colored waters of the Caribbean Sea where you can enjoy beautiful virgin beaches, snorkeling over the coral reefs, kayaking, wildlife hikes, horseback riding and just plainly relaxing.

Guests at Big Tree Family and Retreat Centre are assured to see dozens of toucans everyday in addition to several kinds of monkeys, sloths, colorful frogs, morpho butterflies, hummingbirds, countless varieties of birds and exotic insects.

Designed as two vacation homes on one property for families and retreats, the property comes fully equipped and can comfortably sleep up to 14 people. There are 5 private bedrooms, each with its own private balcony, large exterior outdoor bathroom and private garden. There is a large outdoor open style full kitchen, dining area, and a wildlife terrace at the main house. All bedrooms come fully furnished with linens and pillows, beach and bathroom towels, clothing hangers, ceiling fans, bedside tables and lamps, and comforters for cool nights. There is also a hidden locked safe where you can protect your valuables. Guests rent the entire property - whether you are one or 14 people (please see my other listings to rent only one of the houses separately).

The main house is separated into 5 units:

Phenix: the main living / social area includes an oversized professional kitchen, dining table for up to 12, and a comfortable lounge that could accommodate up to 4 additional beds. The social area is very open to the environment, there are few walls.

Kinkajoo: the master bedroom is spacious and bright. Master king size bed, full walk in closet and a bathroom suspended into the primary forest with toilet, bidet, his and hers sinks and his and her double showers.

Las Guatusas: the kids’ bedroom when we live there. It sleeps 6 - 2 bunk beds comprised of 2 twins and 2 full sized beds. The bathroom opens up to the primary forest.

The Macaw: the third guest bedroom with a queen sized bed and private outdoor bathroom.

Los Mapaches: The laundry and utility rooms in the parking area. These areas have restricted access, however we may provide you with access to the laundry room if requested, or we will be happy to do your laundry for you!

All bedrooms are fully screened, secured with digital door locks and come with ceiling fans.

The second home, Villa Toucan, has 2 private bedrooms, each with its own private balcony, outdoor bathroom and private garden, a full kitchen, dining area, a wildlife terrace and our new Hammock hut.

The master bedroom includes a queen sized bed and the second bedroom has 2 twin size beds - perfect for kids - or can convert to one large king sized bed. Each bedroom has its own private balcony overlooking the rainforest and large exterior outdoor bathrooms. The floors and cathedral ceilings are made of beautiful local hardwoods.
